EDP AWARDS TECHNICAL COMMITTEE

Innovation is the focus for judging the awards. The EDP Technical Committee judge the products on the value of the new technical abilities they offer. This can be innovation in the technology that improves speed, quality, usability and functionality or reduces environmental impact as well as cost to the user.

 Sophie Matthews-Paul – Technology Editor, Image Reports
Sophie Matthews-Paul is a well-known independent international consultant, concentrating on the wide-format digital print market, its technologies, and its use in industry today. She works with many of the industry's leading manufacturers, as well as vendors and end-users. Sophie is based in Europe, and contributes regularly to many specialist publications worldwide. She is also a photographer and has been involved with pre-press and the practical aspects of inkjet production since the earliest days of its development.
 
 Martin Spaar – Founder and Editor, Publisher
After his studies in Zurich and Heidelberg Martin Spaar started as a journalist at the “Badener Tagblatt” and focussed on IT topics in the late eighties. He founded Publisher 1993 and made it to the leading publishing trade magazine in Switzerland.
 
 Chris Cooke – Publishing Director, Image Reports
Chris Cooke has been involved in magazines focusing on the graphic arts sector since 1997 when digital print was in its infancy. “I have always enjoyed being part of this sector and seeing its developments and I am very pleased to be heading up such strong team of technical journalists who will be putting forward the leading candidates for EDP awards in 2009.”  Image Reports is the leading monthly magazine and website for wide format digital print. It presents information to its valued readers in three main segments: business, technology and the environment and in so doing supports the print service providers and suppliers operating in this area. 
 
 Joan Martorell – ColorInlab
Juan Martorell was born in 1970 and graduated in Superior Agronomical Engineering  at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has hold several positions in the graphic arts industry. He has created the CMYK publication, the International Color Congress, and has participated in national and international R&D projects. He worked as Training Manager, Software Product Manager and R&D Manager for BeDigital from 2003 to 2006. Later on he created his own company, ColorInLab Color Consulting, specialized in color management services, distributing solutions for the Digital Printing market in Spain and Portugal and also continues with his task of color consulting services. He has been giving training courses and conferences about different working areas of the Graphic Arts industry for more than 14 years. He has worked for private companies and also for government and non lucrative organizations. He usually writes technical articles for different magazines in Spain. He has worked for several international brands in Germany, Poland, Italy, Colombia, Mexico and other countries.
 
 Herman Hartman – Editor in Chief, SignPro Benelux
Herman Hartman was born in 1957 in Holland. He graduated in graphic arts in 1980 and has hold several positions in the publishing industry since then. In 1992 he started to work as a consultant for the industry. As freelance journalist he has written  many  articles on his specialty -digital printing and prepress. He contributed to the first edition of SignPro Benelux in 2000 and he is still in charge. Mr Hartman writes articles for other magazines in the graphic arts industry and is also involved in implementing ISO printing standards in the Netherlands.
